GRi scores a first on the Budget Statement

Sat, 6 Feb 1999 Source: --

Ghana's 1999 budget statement was delivered to the Ghanaian Parliament on Friday 6th February and before the Honourable Minister of Finance, Kwame Preprah, got out of the House, Ghana Review International had scored a first by beaming a 17-page excerpt of the statement to its 10,000 e-mail readers around the globe. By Saturday 7th February the excerpts were already on their web site, with a promise to load the full text of the statement on the site within a few days. And all these happened well before other Ghanaian media houses on the internet got in on the act

Reacting to the news from Mission Control No. 4 in Accra, Managing Editor Frank Agyekum said "we realise that in the news business, speed is of the essence and that is why we are constantly improving our set up both in terms of technology and staff strength to enable us take the Election 2000 bull by the horn".

He went on, "... as you can see from our web site we are the only publication to offer a full and complete load down on the current state of political parties in Ghana together with full copies of their manifestos permanently resident o our web site".

And he concluded, "... there is no doubt that we have come a long way in barely three years of our operations. We are by no means complacent but rather determined to work harder to provide unbiased news on developments in Ghana and its interaction with the international communities. Our overall corporate plan is also marshalling our US and UK offices as the leading news media on Ghana".
