Accra, Aug. 11, GNA - Nii Tackie Tawiah III, Ga Mantse, on Wednesday commended delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for successfully conducting their congress and electing a flagbearer for Election 2012.

He said the process was a strong indication that the party adhered to strict democratic principles.

"The NPP delegates have given an eye opener to the expansion of the Electoral College and such an example should be emulated by the other political parties and institutions".

Nii Tawiah made the commendation when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the newly elected NPP Flagbearer for Election 2010, paid a courtesy call on him at Ga Mantse Palace in Accra.

He said the congress was historic and worthy of emulation but expressed regret about acrimonies and insults on the political landscape shrouded in half-truths and lies which is not healthy for the country's socio-economic development.

Nii Tawiah urged the leadership of NPP to consult and include inputs from the grassroots when drafting the party's manifesto for Election 2012.

Nana Akufo-Addo said the call was to inform the Ga Mantse about his victory at the congress.

"I came here to seek for advice and prayers before the congress, it is therefore prudent and customary to share the good news and acknowledge the support given to me," he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo said the election was devoid of disturbances and had strengthened the internal democracy of the party making it a strong and formidable force for Election 2012.

"I am aware of what is happening in the Ga Traditional Area and I trust that this year's Homowo Festival celebration would be peaceful", he said.

He presented cash and assorted drinks to Ga Mantse towards the celebration of Homowo.
