GT Bank supports KNUST to beef up security

The Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank Ghana Limited, on Tuesday donated 10 motor bikes to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), to enhance security on the University's campus and its environs.

The donation formed part of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility, to enable the University security become more mobile in combating crime.

KNUST which in 1968 had a total student population of 1, 700, had seen the number increased to over 40, 000 in recent times, and with the expansion in infrastructure, security patrols and mobility had become more difficult.

Mr. Olalekan Sanusi, Managing Director of the Bank, said as the University expands, it was appropriate to improve security to help protect life and property.

He lauded the University, Ghana’s premier science and technology university, for their quality education delivery which had seen it produce well-resourced human resource to benefit the nation.

Mr. Sanusi said the financial institution had over the years rolled out innovative products to facilitate business transaction by tertiary students in respect of payment of their fees via online.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, lauded the Bank for being committed to improving security on the campus and its environs.

He indicated that the University authorities had worked assiduously to erect two police posts at Kotei and Ayeduase, which all fall within the environs of the KNUST to improve the security network.

Mr. Kwame Saarah Mensah, the KNUST Council Chairman, urged the private sector to partner the University effectively to upgrade its infrastructure for effective academic and administrative work.
