GT Installs 1,350 Lines in Koforidua

OUT OF 1,700 applications for telephone facilities in Koforidua, Ghana Telecom (GT) has so far installed 1,350 lines which is about 75%.

This was disclosed by the Eastern Regional head of GT, Mr. Nii Amaa Fleischer-Brock, in an interview.

He was reacting to complaints by residents at Koforidua who applied for telephone facilities in a bonanza and are said to be disappointed over the long delay by GT in supplying them the facility.

Fleischer-Brock explained that due to the overwhelming response from the bonanza, they are still in the process of installing the telephone facilities and was of the hope that before the month ends, all lines would be installed.

"Not that we'll not install; we'll definitely install the lines," he assured.

Touching on the non-existence of the emergency line 999 for the Koforidua Fire Service, he said this is new to him and that he will find out and reactivate it, if they are not functioning.

When asked to comment on the frequent breakdowns of pay phones, Fleischer-Brock attributed this to mischief on the part of some people who insert foreign objects into the card readers.

He noted that most of the faults pertain more to the handsets than to any other part of the phone.

He called on the public to "own" pay phones in their communities by promptly reporting those who vandalise them and thus safeguard this facility.

The regional head urged their customers to pay their bills promptly as this will help GT to improve their services.
