Ghanaians have been warned against unaccredited schools
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned Ghanaians against enrolling in 15 unaccredited learning centres and 36 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.
In a public notice issued on July 8, 2026, the Commission said the affected learning centres and institutions are not authorised to operate under the Commission's accreditation requirements.

The 15 unaccredited learning centres include University of Ghana Learning Centres in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa, Bolgatanga and Sunyani.
Others are the University of Education, Winneba Learning Centres at Jayee University College in Accra and St Theresa's College in Anaji-Takoradi, University for Development Studies Learning Centres at Wa and Chereponi, Takoradi Technical University's Akatakyi and Butumagyebi campuses, as well as, the Tema and Wenchi campuses of Methodist University Ghana.
GTEC also announced that the institutional accreditation of 36 institutions had expired.
Among them are Abbeam Institute of Technology, Lakeside University College, Institute of Local Government Studies, Oak City International College, Western Hills School of Nursing, Kings and Queens Medical College, Royal Nursing College, Zenith University College, Jayee University College, Modal College, Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Cape Coast, and Archbishop Porter Girls' Polytechnic.
The Commission urged prospective students, parents and guardians to verify the accreditation status of institutions and academic programmes before seeking admission.
"GTEC strongly advises prospective students, parents, guardians, and the general public to verify the accreditation status of all institutions, Learning Centres, and academic programmes directly with the Commission before applying for admission," the notice stated.
The Commission warned that enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres could result in the loss of time, money and future career opportunities.

"Enrolling in unaccredited institutions or Learning Centres poses significant risks, including the possible loss of time, financial resources, and future career opportunities," GTEC added.
