The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has honoured the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, with a Policy Impact Award in recognition of his leadership in stabilising the economy.

The award was presented on Friday, April 10, 2026, during the inauguration of GUTA’s new executives and awards night held in Accra.

GUTA praised Dr Asiama for what it described as “decisive and pragmatic policy direction” over the past few months, crediting his leadership with helping to rein in inflationary pressures and restore relative stability to the Ghanaian cedi.

“Under his stewardship, we have witnessed significant improvement in macroeconomic stability, particularly in the moderation of inflation and the strengthening of the cedi,” GUTA noted.

The association added that the central bank’s recent policy interventions have brought renewed confidence to the trading community.

“As traders, we are directly affected by currency volatility and rising prices. The steps taken by the Bank of Ghana under Dr Asiama have provided some relief and predictability for businesses,” GUTA stated.

Dr Asiama was not present at the ceremony. The award was received on his behalf by the Bank’s Director of Communications, Bernard Otabil, and Secretary of the Bank, Aimee Quashie.

Receiving the award, Otabil expressed appreciation to GUTA for the recognition, noting that the Governor remains committed to sustaining economic stability.

“This recognition is deeply appreciated. The Governor is focused on consolidating the gains made so far and ensuring long-term stability for businesses and households,” he said.

He further emphasised the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to prudent monetary policy and stakeholder engagement to support economic recovery and growth.

The recognition comes amid ongoing efforts by the central bank to maintain price stability and strengthen the local currency, key priorities for Ghana’s economic outlook.
