GWCL to Expand Services

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has reiterated its determination to meet the expectation of the consuming public.

At a public forum to sensitise the public on its operations at Aboabo in Kumasi, the acting Managing Director (MD), Professor Jonathan Nii Ahaley Nunoo, said the company is putting in place programmes to rehabilitate most of the machines to improve both effective and efficient service delivery to areas where water flow is not regular and also extend their coverage to areas without pipelines.

According to the acting MD, the company spends ?233 million everyday and ?133 million on chemicals to treat the water from the headworks.

Prof. Ahaley Nunoo explained it was the high expense that compelled the company to increase its tariffs by 40 per cent to enable them have the needed finance to sustain and improve their service.

He stated that as part of the company's efficiency programme, it has launched an all-out war on illegal connections to expose those indulging in these negative practices.

Ahaley Nunoo continued that the company has initiated a handsome reward for all public-spirited people who will report such acts and added that the informant will be given protection for security reasons.

He appealed to the general public to report leakages that they find in the system for prompt attention and repairs.

The Ashanti Regional chief manager of GWCL, Mr. K. B. Maison, said the Ashanti Region spends ?25.6 million on electricty everyday and ?20 million on chemicals to treat water everyday.
