GWCL to resume normal water supply for Bolga

Bolgatanga, March 21, GNA - Efforts are underway to resolve the water crisis that hit the Bolgatanga Municipality and it environs in the Upper East Region a week ago Mr Joseph Kojo Kankam, Administrator of Water Company Limited (GWCL) in charge of the Region has reassured. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Bolgatanga on Friday, Mr Kankam explained that out of three Electric Pumping Motors supplying water to the Municipality and it environs, two had broken down and have now been fixed.

He said currently, the rehabilitated motors were being installed and assured that normal supply of water would resumed as soon as possible.

When the GNA visited the plant site at Vea, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality, engineers were busily installing the motors Mr Kankam explained that preparations were underway by the government to replace all the motors and other parts which are absolute by the end of the year to boost operations at the plant.

As a result of the water shortage, residents, especially school children have been commuting over long distances in search of water at the expense of other social and economic activities. In a related development, management of GWCL in the region has been educating the people, including students on the need to use water judiciously, as part of activities marking this year's World Water Day.
