Amasaman (G/A), March 30, GNA - The Ga District Assembly on Wednesday awarded 131 past and present Assembly Members for their distinguished service to the development of the District.

The Assembly also awarded past and present District Chief Executives (DCE) and some Members of Parliament (MP), who had in divers ways contributed to the development of the Ga District.

Mr Aryeetey Attoh, MP for Trobu-Amasaman, said every servant and labourer needed his or her work to be recognised but "it is unfortunate that many a time we wait for our Leaders and Heroes to die before we consider honouring them".

"Let us honour them whiles they live", he said.

He said the Assembly would continue to honour personalities who had contributed in diverse ways to the Ga District.

"This would go a long way to show that the Assembly recognised those, who contributed to the development of the District. Mr Jerry Aquaye Thompson, Former DCE for Amasaman, asked the Assembly Members to attach more seriousness to their work to make the decentralization policy more meaningful.

James Tettey Lartey, Former Assembly Member for Ofankor, called on members to maintain the non-partisan nature of the district assembly as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution to enhance national development and unity.
