Ga East MCE inspects ongoing road projects

Mr John Kwao Sackey, Ga East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), on Monday inspected ongoing road projects in the Municipality to ascertain the progress of work done.

The projects include the 12.8km Hatso-ECOMOG/Police-Container/Top Herbal Clinic road, the 5.6km road from Atomic roundabout to Kwabenya, Taifa, Adjei Town and God First roads and the 5.6km road from Musuko to Ashoman Estate to Taifa-Dome area.

The three roads – 12.8km; 5.6km and 5.6km are estimated at GH¢8.8 million, GH¢3.6 million and GH¢3.2 million respectively. All roads will be tarred double sealed with bitumen.

Mr Sackey commended the contractors, Sidalco Company Limited, Rajga Company Limited and Agyakot Company Limited for the progress of work and urged them to speed up. “I have noticed a significant improvement since the last time I visited these sites,” he said.

He was also happy with the completed Ashongman Estate to Dome road and the Adjei Town/God First road which was about 60 per cent complete.

In spite of the fact that there has been some progress on the roads, Mr Sackey expressed deep concern in respect of the inconvenience motorists go through. He therefore entreated the contractors to do everything possible to complete the projects on schedule.

He said the concern of motorists continued to hit him on a daily basis hence his move to once again visit the sites.

“I can see that there is some progress and I also know that you want to do a thorough job, but you must also understand that the patience of commuters has a limit and so all must be done to ease the pain of persons who ply this route,” Mr Sackey said.

He also apologized to motorists and commuters for the inconvenience the construction was causing, and urged them to bear with the situation since the project would benefit all.

He said the National Democratic Congress government was committed to the provision of quality infrastructure to aid national development, adding “Government would work to have all the major road projects completed on time.”

Briefing the MCE, Mr J.B. Quarcoo, Municipal Engineer of Ga East said, “The project delayed slightly because of the rains and the area is a difficult terrain to work on”.

Mr Abdul Razak Alhassan Gariba of Rajga Company Limited said: “I started my project with 5.6km and had been varied to 9km and 60 per cent of the job has completed.”

He said release of fund had been a major challenge, hence the delay in completion and urged that early payments should be made to contractors to finish their jobs on schedule.
