Ga Manye launches cleanup campaign

Accra, Nov.28 GNA - Naa Dedei Omaadru, Ga Manye (Queen mother of Accra) on Friday called for a collaborative effort between the public and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to check the perennial problem of filth in the city.

She said to make the programme a success greater effort was needed to sustain the fight to ensure clean environment, good health and prosperity for the people.

Naa Dedei Omaadru made the call when she formally launched her 40th Anniversary cleanup campaign at the Salaga Market in Accra.

The exercise formed part of activities marking the 40 years of her enstoolment as the Paramount Queen mother of the Ga State.

She said the involvement of AMA in the campaign was an ample testimony of the traditional authority's desire to liaise with them to ensure that the city was clean.

"It is my hope that this will not be an addition to your collection of documents but a tool for our emerging partnership."

She urged the people in area to bury their difference and chart a new path for the rapid development of the Ga state.

Mr Solomon Offei Darko, AMA Chief Executive, urged the market women to tidy their surroundings to prevent them from contracting diseases.

He said the AMA was mounting a campaign to ensure that market women did not litter the place unnecessarily during the Christmas.

Mr Reginald Niibi-Ayi-Bonte, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, urged the people to bury their political differences and strive for the common interest of the traditional area.

He said the people must also change their attitude towards certain things in the community if they really wanted the society to progress.
