Igbo leader in Ghana, Eze Dr Amb Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu and Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II
The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has directed the suspension of the Yam Festival planned by 'Igbo king' in Ghana, Eze Dr Amb Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu.
The ceremony was scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in Accra, at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park.
The Council, in its statement, acknowledged it had received an invitation to the ceremony.
However, the ceremony has raised concerns from the Ga Traditional Council.
The statement indicated that the ceremony defied an earlier caution to the Igbo “chief” to refrain from holding traditional and cultural festivities under the guise of importing Igbo customs into the Ga State.
According to the Council, such activities could spark tension and disturb peace and security in the region.
