Ga chiefs take measures to prevent cholera

Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, Acting President of Ga Traditional Council (GTC), has appealed to the people of Ga Mashie to observe good hygienic practices to avoid the cholera outbreak.

The Greater Accra Region has been hard hit by cholera and it is estimated that more than 6,000 cases have been reported.

Nii Dodoo Nsaki made the appeal, when he led the chiefs and people to undertake a massive cleanup at Ngleshie, Akanmadzen, Gbese and Osu to precede Homogeneous Festival (HomoFest) of the Gas, which is organised to climax the annual Homowo Festival of the chief and people.

“It should be the responsibility of the people of Ga Mashie to ensure that their environment becomes clean before the commencement of the HomoFest.

Nii Ayibonte II, Gbese Mantse, who took part in the exercise appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to ensure that the exercise is maintained by providing logistics.

He asked the people not to compromise on environmental sanitation since most diseases are preventable through cleanliness.

Nii Ayibonte commended the Assemblyman for the area, Mr Emmanuel Botchway for mobilising the people to undertake the exercise.

He said the cholera outbreak confronting Accra was the cause of poor sanitation.

Nii Ayikai III, Chief of Akanmadzen at James Town told Ghana News Agency that the chiefs maintain the exercise.

Numo Blafo III, Public Relations Officer of the AMA, gave the assurance that the AMA would intensify the public education campaign on good hygiene.
