Needy Children Benefit from GaDangme Heritage Scholarship Scheme

On 2 September 2006 officers of GaDangme Heritage (GDH) led by the Chairman, Nii-Ashitei Ashitey met with representatives of Believers Youth Forum (BYF) in Accra to finalise the arrangements and funding for awarding scholarships to needy children in the Ga and Dangme areas. The scheme, named GaDangme Heritage Scholarship Scheme provides financial support for needy children, and children who have dropped out of basic education or children whose parents are unable to support them to receive basic education.

The scheme is administered on behalf of GaDangme Heritage by Believers Youth Forum (BYF), a charitable Christian organisation based in Accra, which provides educational support and remedial classes for dropout children in selected areas in the Greater Accra Region. The scheme is designed to benefit needy children regardless of their religious or ethnic background. Presently, the scheme is supporting thirty- five primary level pupils and ten pupils at JSS level at La, Osu and Chorkor as at the beginning of this academic term. GDH hopes to extend its funding to BYF in the future to enable the operations of organisation to reach rural areas where there are equally needy children.

Mrs Hetty Appah, Executive Director of BYF and Rev. Ebenezer Ayettey thanked GDH for their commitment in supporting the educational of needs of needy children. Mrs Appah appealed to GDH to consider, in future, extending the scheme to include supporting some of the current pupils to SSS level. Mr A K Armah, GDH Regional Coordinator (Africa), assured BYF that GDH would give serious consideration to the request to support needy children to SSS level.
