The GaDangme International, Inc, (GDI) an umbrella organization of GaDangme associations in the US and Canada has called for calm and reason within the Ga Traditional Authority.
The GDI has in recent weeks been very concerned about the confusion surrounding the installation of a new Ga Mantse.
The GDI appeals to all parties to exercise restraint in this delicate situation.
We appeal to all to be mindful of the cherished GA cultural and traditional practices which define us as a people.
In recognition of the dynamic role being played by some regional chiefs in Ghana by initiating useful projects to improve the plight of their people, the GDI looks forward to a speedy resolution to this impasse so we can direct our energies and attention helping our people.
The GDI looks forward to establishing a good working relationship with the in-coming Ga Mantse to address the following burning issues bedeviling the people: a, High illiteracy rate b, High unemployment c, Marginalization of GaDangme people by government d. Increase in poverty levels f. Lack of adequate health care g. Need for a unified and centralized policy on leasing of GaDangme lands by Ga Traditional Council and Dangme Traditional Council h. Return of GaDangme land/other properties appropriated by previous governments and prudent use of these lands/properties when they are returned.
Additionally, The GDI calls for
1. Employment of GaDangme-speaking teachers in all schools in the GaDangme area.
2. Revive Makola Market for GaDangme women
3. Defend and uphold GaDangme culture in Ghana.
4. Work to create one GaDangme nation with one Paramount Chief.
5. Meet once a year to give progress report of the state of GaDangme.
6. The GDI further requests that all non-sympathetic entities and negative minded observers keep their views to themselves regarding GaDangme affairs if they really wish to be helpful.
