True to his words, the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute and a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darkoh is said to have hanged his political gloves after several years of receiving and throwing weighty jabs at his opponents in the political ring.

The NPP’s Spin Doctor, who is noted for using phrases like “at the end of the day” in almost all his sentences, had earlier last year made a passionate vow to bid fare well to politics effective 31st December, no matter the outcome of the 2012 elections.

The decision to quit politics, according to Gabby, as he is affectionately called, was taken about two years ago, but happenings on the political scene in 2012 had greatly reinforced that position, hence the announcement of his exit from politics late last month.

It would be recalled that the Gabby voluntarily and openly announced last year that he had decided “to quit politics soon to concentrate on more important things.”

One of the reasons he said had necessitated his exit from politics was the ugly incident that took place between him and the outgoing Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Omani Boamah on Multi TV and Joy FM’s current affairs program, Newsfile when he was quoted to have used foul language on the latter for no apparent provocation

During an Interview on Badwam on Adom Channel on Multi TV last year, Gaby said politics in Ghana was becoming frustrating for him and therefore his decision to quit was nonnegotiable.

“One professor or Doctor, I’m not quite sure, wrote in the papers yesterday (Monday 26th September 2011) advising Nana Addo to take me off his campaign team because I insulted Dr. Omani Boamah on Newsfile over the weekend. I was not so pleased with his comments because I’m not even an official member of Nana Addo’s campaign team. These and several comments are why I want to quit as soon as possible,” he stated.

Gabby said he had concentrated the last 10 years of his life on politics and that he now thinks it is time for him to concentrate on his law profession and building his family. “At the moment, my focus more is to help with good policies to develop this nation”.

With majority of Ghanaians still having this declarations by Gabby ingrained in their minds, the social media networks, particularly facebook and twitter was on December 31, 2012 inundated with questions on whether the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute had really backed his words with action?

Whiles some “facebookers” and twits made mockery of Gabby as not exuding much-maturity to live up to his own words, others have threaten not to take him serious should he fail to quite politics as he had promised.

As it stands now, all Ghanaians are waiting patiently on Gabby to do the honorable and simple thing by officially announcing his departure from the political lime light and take a backstage

Meanwhile, checks by The Al-Hajj reveal that, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who is also the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute will make an official pronouncement on this matter very soon.
