Gabby questions Kufuor over “allow executives” advice

The former Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has questioned former President Kufuor’s advice to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party to give the Afoko-led administration some “room to operate” following the wrangling that has hit the party.

The former president in a statement on Tuesday’s bloody clashes at the party’s headquarters over some administrative changes, urged members of the Danquah-Busiah tradition to remain calm and “allow the new executives some room to operate”.

However, in reaction to the comment by the ex-president, the former Danquah Institute boss wrote on his Facebook wall: “President Kufuor says, “I call for calm from all who feel aggrieved in one way or the other and urge them to use laid [sic] rules in the party to seek redress for their complaints while we accord the national executive the necessary freedom and space to operate." Excellent general point, boss.

“But, I am not too sure about the second part of your point”, My question is, who should give which part of the national executive the necessary freedom and space to operate? The 9 National Executive officers (or the Steering Committee) are themselves not in agreement to give themselves, collectively, the freedom and space to operate, as we see it! I believe that is where the main focus must squarely be”.

But spokesperson for the former president, Frank Agyekum, told Peace FM: “Anyone who says president Kufuor is indifferent about the happenings in the party doesn’t know him. He is quietly working to fix the crisis in the party”.

Meanwhile, the Council of Elders of the biggest opposition party have met over the recent developments.
