Nkoranza (B/A), Sept. 25, GNA - Four strong men believed to be members of a gang of robbers who have been terrorising traders on market days at Nkoranza on Monday attacked and robbed Mr Ibrahim Issifu, driver of a Benz 609 bus with registration number GR 4181 N of his money and personal effects.
The thieves took away his 1100 Nokia mobile phone, 200,000 cedis and the ignition key of the vehicle, belonging to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). Mr Issifu told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that he and a colleague Mr Isaac Ofori who also drove a Benz bus with registration number GR 4182 N were sent from Accra to sell goods on credit to teachers in the Nkoranza District.
He said they arrived at Nkoranza at about 2:000 hours that Monday and decided to park their vehicles at the Police Station to continue their business the next day. Mr Issifu said some of the local teachers who heard of their arrival came to the Police Station to enquire about the terms of the credit sales and while returning after seeing the teachers off the four men approached him and held his arms, threatened him with a cutlass and robbed him of the items.
Mr James Edjei Biney, District GNAT secretary, expressed regret about the incident and called on the District Security Committee to establish neighbourhood of community watch committees to help the police to combat the crime wave in the District.
