The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the number of Ghanaians stranded in Côte d’Ivoire following the Gbenyiri conflict in the Savannah Region has reduced significantly to 5,309 from the initial figure of 13,253.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, September 15, 2025, he stated that about 8,000 citizens have already returned home.
“During my visit, I discovered that about 8,000 Ghanaians have safely returned home. The latest census conducted reveals that the remaining number of Ghanaians in Côte d’Ivoire is 5,309. It is no more 13,253,” he stated.
Gbiniyiri Clashes: What we know so far
The conflict sparked by a land dispute in the Gbenyiri area, compelled thousands of people to flee their homes with many crossing into neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire.
Meanwhile, the government has established a seven-member mediation committee to find lasting solutions to the violent land clashes.
