Gbevlo ‘Fingers’ Castle Gurus

When the history of politics in Ghana is chronicled – from the colonial government to the current National Democratic Congress administration, the circumstances surrounding the death of President JEA Mills as it happened to former Vice President Kow Nkensen Arkaah – are issues that will never go away, even from insider perspectives.

This is aside the horrendous case of the murder of the judges – all linked to one political regime each time they were in government. Perhaps, that is why a clue pasted on the Facebook of National Security Coordinator of all government functionaries makes interesting reading.

Any person trained in linguistics and intelligence will indeed read volumes for instance in the statement: “An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind."

Who is the insincere and evil friend in this instance; who is the beast and whose body and whose mind has been wounded in this regard?

The statement, coming at a time when the opposition is calling for an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of the former President and when a family member in the person of Cadman Mills elected to spill the beans in dramatic fashion and under the gazing eyes and bemused minds of the diplomatic community, certainly begs for answers.

As far as most well-meaning Ghanaian minds would conjecture, Lt. Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey may only be thinking aloud as an intelligence officer numero uno contributing to the debate the way Cadman Mills did.

Larry could have cited the opposition if, indeed, he had fair and concrete grounds to do so; yet he did not, rather harmlessly referring to them as wild beasts capable only of harming the body. At this point, ordinary people would ask what Larry had in mind in making such references, if there is no intention to make a revelation or contribute to the nagging debate?

Facebook is an opinion page and column for anybody with a tale to tell the world; and that is why we believe Larry intends the world out there to listen to his verdict and opinion on the death of his former Boss and Commander-in-Chief. Officially, Larry might create a storm within the party and risk losing his position.

Behind that smokescreen of internet creativity and fun, he could, however, drop hints that may salve his conscience in a matter too wicked to be shelved by puny humans, considering the flak and furor attending the death of the President and the last minute comedy of errors from the Osu Castle through the streets of Accra to the 37 Military Hospital and Morgue.

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey need not come cleaner. He has said it all, and the enemies within must begin to look inwards and make their confessions – publicly – before the ghost of Judas Iscariot pops up.

Since Government has not officially come out with the facts, we have reason to believe the Colonel and National Security Coordinator may be speaking to us and addressing the nation in that regard.
