General Mosquito Warns NDC

Sun, 24 Nov 2002 Source: .

The NDC MP for Wenchi, Johnson Asiedu Nketia says any further postponement of the special NDC congress to elect a flagbearer for the 2004 elections would not be in the interest of the party. He said by the provisions of the party’s constitution, the special congress should have been held on December 7, 2002.

This means that the party has already breached its constitution ad the situation should not be worsened by any further postponement, he said. Mr Asiedu Nketia (also known as General Mosquito) described as unfortunate rumours of a postponement and the on-going exchanges in the media, which is creating artificial tension in the party. “Against this background, it will be better to get the elections done on December 21st 2002 as scheduled to enable the party to move ahead in unity with its plans for the 2004 elections”, he stressed.

He has therefore appealed to the NDC National Executive Committee not to entertain any suggestions for the postponement of the election of the party’s flagbearer.

Mr Asiedu Nketia said delegates from the foreign branches of the party had booked their flights for the December 7th congress and had to reschedule for the 21st December. Another postponement in his view could create further difficulties.

On speculations that financial constraints are holding the congress back, the MP said members of the Functional Executive must strive to live up to their pre-election promises of rebuilding the party both organizationally and financially. Source - Independent
