The General Secretaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People's Party (CPP), and Peoples National Convention (PNC) left for the Hague, Netherlands at the invitation of the Institute of Multi-Party Democracy, based in that country.

They are Mr. Dan Botwe of the NPP, Dr Josiah Ayerh of the NPC, Dr Nii Noi Dowuona of the CPP and Mr. Gabriel Pwamang of the PNC. Briefing newsmen before their departure, Mr. Dan Botwe said the seminar would discuss how to develop the capacities of political parties in emerging democracies. Other countries attending the week's seminar include Tanzania, Bolivia, Mali and Ghana. Mr. Botwe said the delegation would interact with the officials of the institute and observe the elections in the Netherlands on Wednesday.

They would also visit polling stations and observe the counting of the ballots. He said political parties in Ghana and the institute have signed the memorandum of understanding after a year's discussion. Dr Dowuona said the seminar would afford them the opportunity to study the organization of political parties structure and how to generate funds. The secretaries would also study campaign strategies, which would fit into Ghana's political activities. South Africa and Mozambique have already participated in previous programmes of the institute.
