German Federal Police donates to KIA-GIS

The German Federal Police has presented ICT equipment and Fraud Detecting Devices worth fifty (50) thousand Ghana Cedis to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.

The items include; fifty (50) Loupes, two (2) each of barcode scanners, Laptops, and Laser Coloured Printers, thirteen (13) Desk Computers and Black and White Printer, and one (1) Nikon camera.

The purpose of the donation is to improve the administrative work and aide officers in detecting fraudulent document and it’s also geared towards strengthening the on- going cooperation between the German Federal Police and the Ghana Immigration Service.

In a remarks, the Vice President of German Federal Police, Mr. Jurgan Schubert, stated that KIA is the most important International border crossing to and out of Ghana and considering the technical role it’s plays in the security of the nation, adequately resourcing it officers to be able to differentiate between the genuine and fraudulent document is key, hence the donation of the items to augment their efforts.

The Comptroller - General of Immigration, Lawyer Kwame Asuah Takyi, said the equipment will boost the capacity of personnel to the demands of migration. He further added the donation is timely as the GIS continue to be vigilant in ensuring that no undesirable elements enter the country with falsified travel document. Considering the current trends where terrorists impersonate people in order to outwit border officials.

The Liaison Officer, German Federal Police, Accra who initiated the donation expressed joy that Federal Police was able to assist GIS with the equipment and implored the service to take good care of the items.

Receiving the items, the Regional Commander of KIA, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Edith Penelope Arhin, thanked the German Federal Police for the gesture and assured that the equipment will used for the purpose for which it was given.
