German doctors to assist aged Ghanaians

Accra, Oct. 22, GNA - A team of 25 medical doctors from Germany are in the country to give a two-week free medical care to members of the Association of Retired Persons in Ghana (ARPG) and the aged.

The team invited by King David Afadzi, President of ARPG, and Mr Cephas Bansah, a Ghanaian based in Germany, on Friday paid a courtesy call on Mr Yaw Barimah, Minister for Manpower Development and Employment.

The Minister called for a stronger relationship between Ghana and Germany and suggested that a programme that could permit Ghanaian doctors have refresher courses in Germany be instituted.

"That could enable our country have a stronger human resource base in medicine," he said.

Mr Barimah said the government was determined to ensure quality health care for the people and it was heartening that individuals like Mr Bansah had arranged for support for the health of the aged. He pledged the Ministry's support for the programme. Professor Klaus Jung is the leader of the team. 22 Oct. 04
