Former Minister for Communications, Dr Omane Boamah, has lashed out at Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia following his recent comments that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) performed poorly on social interventions and made life tough for Ghanaians.

According to Bawumia, the opposition did nothing in their eight years of leadership but only worsened the hardships of Ghanaians by not implementing policies to ease the economic burdens in the country.

He claimed that with the implementation of policies such as the Free Senior High School, paying Nurses’ allowances, creating employment through One District One Factory, among others, the Akufo-Addo-led government has done better.

To him the NPP has done a good job in its 20-month of governance in making life more comfortable for Ghanaians as compared to the NDC.

Dr. Boamah, in a rebuttal argued that the NPP has only paid lip service to Ghanaians adding that even government’s attempts to intervene in the so-called sufferings of Ghanaians are rushed and fraught with avoidable yet costly, painful and amateur hitches.

He added that, “NPP’s objective is not altruistic and development-centred but simply for political gains.”

Mr. Boamah, for instance, cited some challenges associated with the implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy which according to him was guaranteed under the Constitution of the NDC government.

He said that had the idea been thought through properly, certain occurrences like needless deaths, infections, congestion, and the current multiple track system would have been avoided.

He challenged that Dr Bawumia, as a social activist, is expected to speak to and within acceptable framework(s) “even when his concepts are confusing or deliberately made confusing for his parochial and partisan political gain.”

Omane Boamah, however, maintained that the NDC has several policies and interventions to its credit because the party loves social interventions and “we implement them better because we are social democrats.”

In his words, “I am glad to state that the specific NDC social interventions, beyond significantly expanding the NHIS and initiating and implementing progressively free SHS, include: Free School Uniforms; Free School sandals; Free textbooks; Free cocoa fertilizer; Free cocoa seedlings; Payment of premium to cocoa farmers while increasing producer price of cocoa; Ayalolo metro buses and Rejuvenation of State Transport Corporation; and Provision of funds to SMEs.”

He besieged the Vice President to get to work and stop haunting himself with what he described as ‘NDCism’ ahead of the 2020 general elections because Ghanaians deserve better.
