Ghana @50 Cultural Display in Belgium

The three Asante associations in Belgium, (Asanteman, Asante Akim and Kwabre ne Sekyere) organized an impressive cultural programme at the forecourt of the Saint Catherine Cathedral Church in the city center of Brussels.

This open air theater showcased three important events in Asante culture; initiation (bragoro), marriage rites and naming ceremony of a child. It was a great event with the Akwaaba dancing troupe performing adwoa and other Ghanaian traditional drumming and dancing amidst cheering from the gathered audience.

In his opening address the Acting Chairman of the Asanteman association, Mr. S. Owusu Amoah expressed sincere thanks to the special invited guests which included the HE the Ghana Ambassador to Belgium, Mrs. Nana Bema Kumi and the Embassy staff for turning up at such a historic event.

With French, Nederlands and English translations the attraction of passersby and tourists to the city center wwere not left out. The Ag. Chairman thanked the Belgian Government for the encouragement, attention and also the integration of various cultures into their society.

He explained how the Asantes in Ghana perform this tradition to distinguish themselves from the other cultures the same functions in our Country.

With drumming and dancing which marched the traditional dressing of the Kings, Queens and all the Asantes who turned up for the occasion, our Ghanaian culture was demonstrated to the gathered to take home.
