On Monday, The Chronicle newspaper reported that the former President Jerry John Rawlings would not honour the invitation to the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Ghana’s Independence on March 6.
However, the special aide to the ex-president, Victor Smith, told an Accra-based radio station - JOYFM - that the Rawlings has not yet taken a decision.
According to Smith, Rawlings left the country on Monday on a five-day visit to South Africa for the Africa Forum conference on corruption.
He was accompanied by his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and is expected back at the weekend. Mr. Smith said the former president will take a decision on his return.
A fortnight ago, a government delegation led by the Chairman of the Council of State, Daniel Adsei-Bekoe and which included prominent religious leaders extended a formal invitation to the former President to participate in the jubilee celebrations.
