The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called off its annual open day celebration this year due to operational exigencies.
A statement released by the security authority and copied to GhanaWeb read, “the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) regrets to announce to the general public that this year’s Open Day event has been cancelled. This has become necessary due to current operational exigencies.”
Any inconvenience caused by this cancellation is deeply regretted, the press statement noted.
Over the years, the open day event has been a part of the activities observed to mark independence anniversary in Ghana.
The open day offers civilians an opportunity to interact with the military to enable them have an insight into their work.
The soldiers usually treat the gathering to foot and arms drill, display of some basic weapons and amusement shootings.
The programme is usually attended by students from basic and second cycle schools and the general public.
