The Ghana Christian University College (GhanaCU) has held its 15th matriculation and 57th graduation ceremony at its Amrahia campus in the Greater Accra Region under the theme “Raising Transformational Leaders for Holistic National Development.”
The event also marked the university’s 17th Congregation, bringing together dignitaries from academia, government, clergy, and industry.
In his keynote address, Rev Dr James Yamoah, President of GhanaCU, expressed gratitude for the institution’s steady growth and reaffirmed its mission to produce transformational leaders grounded in
Christian values.
“To raise transformational leaders, we must foster a vision of inclusive growth, encourage intellectual curiosity, and cultivate resilience and commitment to national service,” he said.
Dr Yamoah announced that almost all academic programmes had been reaccredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), with new courses such as BSc Midwifery, BA Youth Ministry, BA Conflict Management and Leadership, and BSc Nutrition awaiting approval.
Plans are also advanced to introduce Master’s programmes in Development Management as part of efforts to secure a Presidential Charter.
Student enrolment has reached 1,350, with 324 new students matriculating and 250 graduating across the faculties of Health Sciences, Business Studies, and Theology.
The event also marked the first graduation of students from the Certificate in Law programme under the Ghana Law Council.
Highlighting infrastructure development, Dr Yamoah mentioned the construction of a new main entrance gate and the acquisition of a Toyota Coaster bus for student use, adding that such projects reflected the management’s commitment to a conducive academic environment.
Representing the Director-General of GTEC, Dr Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, in his keynote address, commended GhanaCU for its commitment to academic quality and relevance.
He described the event’s theme as timely, urging tertiary institutions to focus on nurturing ethical and innovative leaders.
“A transformational leader is not defined by intellect alone but by integrity and empathy. Education must shape character as much as it sharpens the mind,” he said.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Minister of Education, Fred Asa Kisiedu, Deputy Director in charge of Tertiary Education, who sat in as special guest of honour, reaffirmed the government’s support for private and faith-based institutions.
He emphasised education’s central role in building a disciplined and employable workforce through reforms in TVET, digital learning, and teacher development.
Adding to the day’s reflections, Prof Abdulai Abubakari, Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at the University for Development Studies, congratulated the graduates and welcomed the new students.
He praised the university’s holistic approach to learning, describing education as a transformative tool rather than a mere qualification.
“Graduates, as you step into the world, let integrity and accountability be your watchwords. The fight against corruption starts with us—refuse to compromise your values and do what is right even when no one is watching,” he advised.
He urged the matriculants to approach their studies with humility and resilience, noting that academic life comes with both challenges and moments of joy.
“Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable,” he said, encouraging them to rely on the university community for support.
The ceremony also celebrated academic excellence, with Priscilla Nuamah Darko, a nurse and mother of three, emerging as Best Graduating Student.
“I wasn’t expecting to come out on top, but this shows that determination pays off. Education transforms lives—never stop pursuing it,” she shared.
In closing, Rev Dr Yamoah thanked the chief and elders of Amrahia, faculty, and staff for their dedication, reaffirming the university’s commitment to shaping ethical, faith-driven professionals who will contribute to Ghana’s transformation.
“We are building leaders who will not only excel professionally but live out values that uplift our nation,” he said.
The colourful ceremony ended with hymns of thanksgiving, marking both a new beginning for the matriculants and a proud milestone for the graduating class.
