‎The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has unveiled plans to operate Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and polyclinics around the clock, in support of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.

‎In a report by citinewsroom.com, the GHS Director-General, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, said the move is intended to improve access to healthcare by making services available at all times across the country.

‎Dr Akoriyea, speaking at a press briefing on Monday, July 14, 2025, described the move as a strategic and timely response to rising healthcare demands and part of efforts to boost national development.

‎He assured the public that adequate security arrangements would be implemented to ensure the safety of both staff and patients during the extended hours.

‎‎

‎“The reason is to align with the 24-Hour Economy Model. The other reason is to take advantage of this opportunity to improve our services. Currently, many CHPS facilities do not run 24-hour operations, and at night, people often struggle to access care,” he said.

‎The goal is to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide, especially in underserved communities.
