The Kotoka International Airport regional command of the Ghana Immigration Service has asked visitors to make their safety a priority in order not to fall prey to criminals.
The command noted that most foreigners, especially first-time travelers know very little about laws governing their stay in the country, hence become victims of some crooks.
Speaking at the GIS open day dubbed “Time with the public”, Regional commander for Kotoka International Airport, Edith Penelope Arhin, revealed that these visitors are deceived by their host or lured into the country for various reasons.
She identified that these perpetrators essentially try to steal or squeeze money out of foreigners, leaving a “dark bruise” on their vacation and ego.
According to Madam Arhin, the practice is unacceptable since Ghana Immigration frowns upon such ill-treatments and reprisal attacks to visitors.
“We have noticed that visitors have no idea about immigration laws governing their stay in the country. This happens and they are either deceived by their host or are lured into the country. We want to educate visitors on what exactly to do during their stay in the country and also on regular means of traveling” she added.
