Ghana Immigration Service pays ‘ghosts’ over GHS67,000

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Wa has dolled out an amount of GHS60, 070.67 to eight undeserving officers.

This is according to the 2015 Auditor General’s report being scrutinized by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC).

The eight whose names appeared on the service’s payroll were unknown to the management of the department said the report and that they were paid various sums of money totaling GHS60, 070.67.

They are; Atipaga Abdalla, GHS5,899.13, Afari Lawrence A., GHS10,609.09, Ennin Felix, GHS7,270.97, Koduah Edmond Tweneboah, GHS1,404.83 and Doku Sampson Tetteh, GHS10,456.93.

The rests are; Adam Iddrisu, GHS11,459.97, Adafia Jude, GHS11,736.69 and Kpodo Daniel Kwabla, GHS1,233.06.

They were all ranked AICOI.

The amount covers the months of September, November and December 2013, February 2014 to April 2014, February 2014 to April 2014, July to September 2014, December 2014 and July 2015.

Again, the report disclosed that salaries totaling GHS7, 550.35, covering the period March to August 2015 was paid into the account of Twum Barima Bright at GCB Assin Fosu “even though, the staff died on 20/2/15” breaching regulation 297(1f) of FAR, 2004.

These bring to GHS67, 621.02 the total amount the service paid to ‘ghosts’.
