Ghana Launches IPv6 Forum activities

Accra/Luxembourg, September 27, 2007 - The IPv6 Forum is embarking on a large-scale promotion plan in emerging nations. This month we welcome Ghana, which has launched IPv6 Forum activities under the leadership of Ms. Dorothy K. Gordon, Director-General, Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT. Ms. Gordon is the first President of IPv6 Forum Ghana.

The prime objective of this initiative is to promote deployment and swifter uptake of the new Internet using the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Working with a strong base of support from industry, education, research communities and government agencies, the IPv6 Forum will drive a multi-stakeholder agenda to take stock of their requirements and plan the way forward for deployment of IPv6.

"The IPv6 Forum Ghana will extend to its national Internet community at large a strong voice and representation in the new Internet world to enable equal access to knowledge and education on New Generation Internet technologies and create momentum in deploying IPv6 for the global good ", states Latif Ladid, IPv6 Forum President.

“Our objective is to promote IPv6 adoption in Ghana through proper dissemination of quality information and technical capacity building to achieve this. We also intend to look at the public impact of IPv6 deployment. The IPv6 Forum Ghana will seek to win key stakeholders from government, industry and academia to design together the IPv6 roadmap and vision for Ghana to be among the first emerging nations to embrace the New Internet based on IPv6”. states Mrs. Dorothy K. Gordon, President, IPv6 Forum Ghana

The Internet has used Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) for the last 2 decades. Despite its tremendous success, IPv4 is showing signs of strains especially in its limited address space and its fast depletion. IPv6 preserves everything that's good about today's Internet - and adds much more: unlimited address space to connect everyone and everything, stateless auto-configuration, seamless mobility, automated network management, mandated security and new optional service levels.
