The Ghana Library Authority has commissioned a new library at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Osei Adumtwum, the Deputy Minister of Education, advised parents to encourage their children to patronize the library.
He said, "the library should be a go-to place for your children. When you cannot find them at home, you must find them at the library. This, in the long run will improve education and reduce brain-drain in the country”.
He encouraged leapfrogging in education in our pursuit to catch up with the advanced countries.
Mr. Hayford Siaw, the Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority thanked the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for building the Ultra Modern library for the authority.
”As part of our objectives to expand and equip our libraries, we now have 62 libraries across the country and we have partnered GIFEC to equip our libraries with ICT equipments”.
He also commended the Ashanti Regional Library for the increased patronage from about 4,000 in 2017 to 40,000 in 2018.
Mr. Abraham Kofi Asante, the Administrator for GIFEC donated 50 laptops to the Northern sector public libraries and promised to “continue supporting GhLA to promote e-library by providing technology equipment and train the staff in ICT to promote life-long learning.”
