John Dramani Mahama, Ghana's Vice President, announced that the that government would be working tirelessly to renovate Ghana's cocoa industry, with the goal of once again being the number one cocoa producer in the world.
In an effort to unseat neighbor Ivory Coast as the world's biggest producer, Ghana has hired 2000 youth to nurture improved cocoa seedlings and to supply them to farmers.
The theme of the national cocoa rehabilitation program in Goaso is "Increased and Sustainable Cocoa Production for Enhanced Livelihood."
The program began in 2011 and is set to end in 2017. The hope is by the end of the program, most farmers will have recovered the production of cash crops in farming areas
