Accra, Jan.27, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday called for the reactivation of the Ghana-Togo Joint Permanent Commission for Co-operation to promote relationship, not only at the governmental level but economic, educational and cultural as well.

He said the peoples of Ghana and Togo along the common border were of the same ethnic group therefore, it was necessary for both countries to promote issues that unite them than those that divide them. President Kufuor made the call when Mr Tete Jean-Pierre Gbikpi-Benissan, Togo's Ambassador to Ghana presented his Letters of Credence at the Castle, Osu.

He said Ghana's policy of good neighbourliness had improved relationship among countries within the West African sub-region and given impetus to peace and stability.

President Kufuor, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) said over the past few years the sub-region had enjoyed good neighbourliness but more efforts were required to promote trade and free movement among them.

Mr Gbikpi-Benissan pledged to ensure the Commission was reactivated for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples. He said the relationship between both countries had been in existence for a very long time and would continue to work for more unity to sustain the peace and stability within the sub-region.
