Ghana, US relations grow - Bawuah-Edusei

Accra, Jan. 18, GNA - Ghana and the United States are bonding in business at a very high rate, resulting in the strengthening of relations between the two countries and promoting growth and mutual trust in all developmental areas, a statement issued by the Ghana Embassy in Washington D.C said on Friday.

Dr Kwame Edusei-Bawuah, Ghana's Ambassador to the US, according to the statement, disclosed this at a news briefing in Washington DC and said the dynamic drive with which both countries have engaged in diverse trade and economic ties in the past eighteen months attested to the fact.

The Embassy of Ghana in Washington, the statement said, used the 50th Anniversary celebrations of Ghana, to embark on commemorative business oriented visits to all metro areas of the USA, with the exception of Chicago which would be made this year. The theme for all these tours was: "Economic Emancipation". The outcome of this drive had given encouragement to Ghanaians in the Diaspora who were spurred on to form Ghana Business Councils to facilitate international trade.

According to the statement the Mission's projections for the year began this month with two separate US Delegations travelling to Ghana to evaluate the country's infrastructural and cocoa industries. It stated that the Embassy was also working with the US government on the US Presidential Initiative and other educational programmes to improve the country's educational system, adding: "a third US delegation would be in Ghana by the end of January to follow up on this initiative".

As part of the Mission's projections for the year, a US Trade Mission to Ghana comprising members from the US Commerce Department and eminent Business Executives would visit Ghana from March 3rd to 5th. It stated that there would also be a US Agro-business mission that would be organized by the US Agricultural Department with their Ghanaian counterparts to promote Agro business in a wide variety of areas from March 10th to March 14h.

The US State Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication would hold a Telecommunication Conference in Accra from May 7th to 9th, which is expected to attract executives from the International Communication Technology in West Africa. The statement said the Ambassador expressed the hope that with the current trend of goodwill that Ghana was enjoying on the International scene, Ghanaian businesses, both home and abroad would embark on aggressive initiatives to form partnerships to create more business enterprises.
