Ghana Youth and Enterpreneurial Development Agency engages 45779 youth

The Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency, has engaged 45779 persons in various modules projects as at June, Mrs Alberta Kwarko of Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare has said in Accra.

She said the modules include the Information Communication Technology, Youth in Agriculture and Youth in Road Maintenance.

Mrs Kwarko made this known on Tuesday when she made a presentation on: “Finding Solutions to the Graduate Unemployment Challenge: The role of Government and other stakeholders,” as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary celebration of the Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management and Public Administration and Health Services Management of the University of Ghana Business School.

She said the Graduate Business Support Scheme (GEBSS) aimed at equipping 10,000 unemployed graduates each year has also registered 2,500 people in the 10 regions.

GEBSS is a public/ private sector initiative between GEBSS Ltd and the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare.

The Local Enterprise and Skills Development Programme has opened offices in 170 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies whilst the Youth Enterprise and Skills Development Centre has trained 9000 unemployed Ghanaians in trades including catering, plumbing, bead making and sewing.

Mrs Kwarko noted that the quality of human resource is critical to the development of any country.

Mrs Christiana Gockel, of the Office of the Head of Civil Service who spoke on the topic: “The role, opportunities and challenges of public sector human resource management in the context of Ghana’s development challenges,” said Ghana is grappling with critical development challenges which must be addressed.
