Ho, Aug. 18, GNA - The Volta Regional branch of the United Cadres Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday said submissions at the Ghana at 50 Commission of Enquiry, which has revealed that many of the anniversary souvenirs sent to the Volta Region were given to people in the region free could not be true.

Mr Henry Ametepe, Acting Volta Regional Coordinator of the UCF at a press conference in Ho after a regular quarterly meeting of the Association said impressions created by officials of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and the various District Assemblies that the items were given out for free needed further probing.

He alleged that the items including T-Shirts, caps and cloths were sold at exorbitant prices, killing the interest of many people, who otherwise would have gone in for them.

Mr Ametepe also alleged that the items could only be found in shops owned by executives and activists of a particular party and described the submissions as "appalling and falsehoods". He claimed that months after the celebration the souvenirs left in stores of the various assemblies and the VRCC were given as gifts at that party's campaign rallies.

Mr Ametepe observed that government's decision to investigate spending on the Anniversary was in the right direction. He urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint while government settled, to solve the country's numerous challenges and re-position it for accelerated development. 18 Aug. 09
