ACCRA, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Ghana has banned imports of live pigs, pig semen, pork and other pig products from Britain due to an outbreak of swine fever there, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said on Thursday. A statement from the West African country"s veterinary authorities said Ghana had ceased issuing permits for imports of pig products from Britain until further notice. The move follows last week"s ban by the European Union, the United States and other countries on all pig imports from England. On Tuesday, the European Union said it was reducing the scope of its ban to apply only to the region surrounding infected farms in three counties of eastern England.
