Ghana deepens bilateral ties with Ukraine, Georgia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced his engagements with Ukraine and Georgia to secure bilateral agreements with the two European countries.

The meetings, which took place on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue in India, among other things are expected to bolster Ghana’s economy and agribusiness.

“Great separate talks with the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Georgia on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue in India.

“Ukraine is seeking to restore medical scholarship opportunities and an expanded bilateral educational partnership agreement with Ghana after the war. We also discussed mutually beneficial agribusiness initiatives, particularly as Ukraine seeks to quickly rebuild its economy,” Andrii Sybiha, Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, is quoted to have said in the post shared by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in a post on ‘X’ on March 19, 2025.

The Ukranian foreign minister, during the engagement, was upbeat about his country ending the war with Russia soon.

“The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasised that his country is all for ending the war with Russia this year, and that they would not be an obstacle for lasting peace,” a portion of the post read.

Georgia also expressed readiness to establish an office in Ghana to facilitate new agreements to cover the educational, agricultural and tourism sectors.

“Georgia on the other hand is considering establishing diplomatic presence in Accra. We additionally explored new agreements to cover the educational, agricultural and tourism sectors of our two countries,” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated in the post.

The minister further expressed his appreciation to Andrii Sybiha of Ukraine and Maka Botchorishvili of Georgia for their warmth and great respect for Ghana.
