Ghana graduates compete for UK scholarships

After screening over 1,500 young and ambitious graduates from the various universities in Ghana, the final 12 contestants have been selected and all is set for the reality TV series dubbed "The Challenge".

The Challenge is a reality series which aims to identify and reward three bright and ambitious graduates with Post Graduate scholarships to study in the United Kingdom.

The finalists are Jojo Chartei Quansah, Thomas Kofi Arboh, John Kesse Quarshie, Joshua Adom, Seth Asiedu Miah, Belinda D. Oduro, Sheila Addo, Joan Selorm Tsorhe, Esther B. Quaofio,Lily B. Atutiga, Lisboa Quarshie, and Nana A.Twum-Barima

The series will test the intelligence of the contestants through a variety of carefully planned tasks that will unearth the management, business, and leadership skills of the contestants. After each task, the performance of each contestant or group will be examined, and based on the judgement of faculty and board members as well as public votes; a contestant would be evicted each week up to the last four.

The top 3 will win Post Graduate scholarships to study in the UK worth 70,000 pounds sterling ; full accommodation and living/study allowance; return air tickets for duration of Post Graduate course; management positions in Ghana's financial and telecom sectors on conclusion of course, brand new laptops and accessories; and a brand new Tata Safari for the ultimate winner.

Ghana's Minister of Manpower,Youth and Employment,Hon. Nana Akomeah officially launched the new reality game series. He described The Challenge as the most effective and productive event, which has ever taken place in the country.He said it is very unique; and different from all other competitions in and out of the country and Africa as a whole.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Godwin Wetherell who was also present at the launch said the relationship between Ghana and Britain for the past years have been very strong and he hoped that with the British Council's effort made to initiate an educative programme like The Challenge the relationship would even grow more stronger.

Mr. Wetherell described Britain as a country with the leading International educational system.

The Challenge is being organized the British Council with support from Zenith Bank, University of Westminster, Virgin Nigeria, Tigo, London Metropolitan University and the Thames Valley University.
