President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that Ghana has made significant efforts at enhancing foundational learning.

Speaking at the Presidential Media Briefing on Foundational Learning in Sub-Saharan Africa, organised by Human Capital Africa (HCA), in Accra, the president outlined the government's initiatives aimed at improving education since he took office.

These, he said, include curriculum reforms and the motivation of teachers, all designed to enhance foundational learning across the country.

"A great deal has been accomplished since I came into office. We have reformed the curriculum, motivated our teachers, and expanded infrastructure. While much still needs to be done, we can confidently say that Ghana is making strides in this area.", he stated.

He emphasised the urgent need for Africa to embrace foundational learning as a crucial response to a pressing existential crisis.

"We must recognise that we are facing a crisis. Without a clear understanding of the depth of this problem, we will struggle to overcome the challenges to our development.", he noted.

On a continental level, he indicated the necessity of establishing accountability mechanisms to monitor progress across the region.

"In the short term, personal commitment from leaders on the continent is vital. By bringing these elements together, we can effectively address foundational learning," he added.

Foundational learning is critical for the holistic development of countries in Africa.

It lays the groundwork for lifelong learning, equipping children with essential skills necessary for personal and societal growth.
