Ghana joins the world to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week 2017

Ghana will join the world to mark the celebration of the 10th anniversary of GLobal Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest program to celebrate and promote entrepreneurship, from Nov 13 - 19, 2017.

For one week each November, roughly 10 million participants take part in 35,000 events, activities and competitions in more than 165 countries around the world.

GEW-Ghana will connect entrepreneurs, students, educators, aspiring entrepreneurs, NGOs, non-profit organisations, development agencies, government officials, etc. to participate in a range of activities which will be conducted by partner organizations to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship culture in Ghana.

GEW Ghana seeks to unleash innovators and job creators who will launch startups that will bring ideas to life, drive economic prosperity and job creation. This year, the GEW Ghana is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Business Development, with support from the British Council Ghana, Global Entrepreneurship Network-Ghana official host of GEW-Ghana will champion a series of national signature events to commemorate the week celebrations.

This year celebrations mark our 10 year in since it inception, we are proud to part of this global entrepreneurship movement since it in ception in 2007. In this 10 years GEW in Ghana , have unearth many of thriving young entrepreneurs in ghana , we will unveil the GEW-Ghana made entrepreneurs at our kick off event on the 13th Nov.2017 . The theme for GEW 2017 celebrations is, “It’s Possible, Just do it.” Say’s Stephen Gyasi-Kwaw Managing Director , Global Entrepreneurship Network-Ghana (GEN-Ghana)”

Slated national signature events will be:

Monday 13th November

Town Hall on the Art of Entrepreneurship:

Venue: University of Ghana- Business School.


The event will bring entrepreneurs from various industries in a town hall meeting format to inspire, educate and mentor people on the art of entrepreneurship by sharing their entrepreneurial journey and experiences on how they started, the mistakes they made, challenges they faced and how they dealt with those challenges in starting and growing their business. The townhall will have identified government officials with relevant agencies to share opportunities available for SMEs including social enterprises. Each session will be climaxed with a Q and A session to give the participant the opportunity to interact with the entrepreneurs .

Media for Entrepreneurship Day

This activity aims to encourage the media ecosystem in Ghana to support and promote social enterprise through their platforms and programs nationwide. On this day the media landscape i.e Print, online tv and radio in Ghana will put a spotlight on Entrepreneurship. -Access to capital, infrastructure for entrepreneurship development and the, role of entrepreneurship in job creation. There will be live discussions on radio, blogs and a social media takeover to draw attention to impact of social enterprise showcasing successful social enterprises.

Wednesday : 15th Nov:

Policy Forum on Women Economic Inclusion

Venue :British Council

Time : 6pm-8pm

The forum will bring together policy makers and women in business stakeholders to connect, share, collaborate and make plans about how women led entrepreneurship can drive economic growth and emancipation , in the broad areas of accessing finance, training, accessing Markets, agriculture, fintech, digital economy, sustainable food production as well as the creative industries that are poised to shape Ghana's sustainable future.

Start-Up Weekend


Start-up Weekend is a 54-hour experiential event to learn, network and start-up. The event creates an opportunity for people of various skills set such as developers, designers, marketers, product managers and start-up enthusiasts to come together to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch start-ups in various sectors.

How It Works

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday; attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Start-up Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening, teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

As participants learn how to create a real company, they will have the opportunity to meet the very best mentors, investors, cofounders, and sponsors who are ready to help them get started.

Start-up Weekend Accra has over the past years ignited most the thriving Start-up entrepreneurs in Ghana. Over the years, participants and winners have gone ahead to build globally successful companies, some of which include Dropifi, Impact Hub Accra, Farmer line, Silicon Accra and many more.
