Ghana misses out on top ten cleanest countries in Africa — Report

Ghana's struggles with environmental and sustainability issues have been amplified by the country's absence from the top list of the 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) Report.

African countries that rank highly on the EPI are those that have prioritised environmental health and sustainability, and understand that a clean environment is a necessity for economic growth, public health, and overall quality of life.

Leading the charge on the continent is Gabon, with a score of 53.1 and a global ranking of 45th, followed by Zimbabwe, scoring 51.7 and coming in at 55th worldwide, with Botswana following with a score of 53.1 percent, as reported by africa.businessinsider.com.

Seychelles ranked fourth with a score of 48.2 and a global rank of 70, while Mauritius followed with a score of 47.3 and a global rank of 78th.

Zambia came in sixth with a score of 46.1 and a global rank of 85th, with Tunisia emerging seventh with a score of 45.7and placing 88th globally.

Egypt and Namibia tied for the eight place, with both scoring 43.8 and a global rank of 99th, while Senegal rounded up the top ten with a score of 43.3 and a global rank of 101st.

According to the report, these countries understand that a clean environment is not just a luxury but a necessity for economic growth, public health, and overall quality of life.

"In 2024, African countries that rank highly on the EPI are those that have prioritized environmental health and sustainability. These countries understand that a clean environment is not just a luxury but a necessity for economic growth, public health, and overall quality of life," the report noted.
