Ace sports journalist and a lawyer Moses Foh-Amoning has urged Ghana to do all it can to host the next All African games. This, he is confident, would enable the country’s athletes to gain the needed experience for next Olympics games in Tokyo 2020.

Lawyer Foh-Amoaning in an interview with host of Onua Sports Franklyn Oteng Appau maintained that Ghana has what it takes to host the All African Games in the country, but regrettably a Sports nation like Ghana has not been able to host the games even once since its inception in July 1965.

In July 1965, the first event was held in Brazzaville, Congo from 30 countries, with about 2,500 athletes competing. Egypt topped the medal count. Then Congo Brazzaville again hosted the 11th Edition of the All African Games after a strong contention from Zambia.

But after staying aloof for a long time, Mr Foh-Amoning wants Ghana to host the 12th African Games which is scheduled to come off in September 2019. Kenya and Zambia have announced their intention to bid for this edition. “I want to see Ghana hosting it and that will help to put our athletes in good shape for international events.

We will be trying to qualify for Tokyo in 2020, so I think we can use the hosting opportunity as dress rehearsal for Tokyo,” he underscored. He also wants political parties vying to form the next government to outline their vision for sports and their take on Ghana hosting the All African Games.

“I believe that if we host All African Games it will help build our infrastructure, invest in training and building Athletes in the country, this is all that I am saying and it must be in interest of both present government and incoming government to tell Ghanaians how they will pump money into the sports sector which will help in our participation in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.”
