Kumasi, March 24, GNA - Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice- Chancellor (VC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has appealed to the alumni to maintain strong links with the university and help to upgrade its facilities. They should become more supportive of efforts at making the institution a Centre of Excellence to anchor Ghana's socio-economic development.

The university had over the years lived up to its mandate of turning out scientists, technocrats, planners and engineers who were spearheading the nation's development agenda. Prof Ellis was inaugurating the refurbished conference room of the College of Engineering.

He said university education in the 21st century comes with its own challenges and this is why all should accept to contribute their quota. Associated Consultants Limited, an engineering consulting firm, funded the project at the cost of GH¢ 25,000.00. The VC said engineering was one of the flagship programmes of KNUST, and expressed gratitude to the firm for the gesture. He said he was confident that the refurbishment would help enhance social activities of the college.

Mr Frederick Asare-Yeboah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm, said about 90 per cent of their staff was made up of alumni of KNUST, adding that, they were making immeasurable contribution to the growth of the company. This, he said, motivated the management to support the university by refurbishing the conference room.
