Ghana needs peace after December election -Mills

Ashaiman (G/A), Sept. 12, GNA- Professor John Evans Attah Mills, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged the party's determination to ensure peace and stability in the country even after the December elections.

Making the pledge during a familiarization tour of the Ashaiman constituency of the party recently, Prof. Mills pointed out that the NDC had no intention to bring mercenaries into the country to topple the government, as alleged by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

"We in the NDC love Ghana more than the NPP claims to, and come December seven, we are not going to use either guns or mercenaries, but our thumbs, to kick the government out of office", he said.

Prof Mills' tour took him to the VALCO Flats (Lebanon), Mamomo, Tukulu and Mandela Park, where he introduced to members and supporters of the party, Mr Alfred Agbesi, a lawyer and the party's parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman.

He was accompanied by Mr Joshua Alabi, Greater Accra Regional chairman of the party, and the vice Alhaji Ismail Bawa.

Prof. Mills asked whether Ghanaians have indeed experienced positive changes in their lives as promised by the NPP government when it took power in 2000.

The NDC flag bearer expressed grave concern about the high cost of living in the country.

This, he said, was manifested in high school fees, high utility bills and mass unemployment.

"People have electricity in their homes, but they are sleeping in darkness," Prof. Mills said.

"NDC will surely come back with the desired changes in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians, come December seven," he assured. Prof. Mills accused the NPP government of having no respect for human rights in the country.

He said since most basic human rights in life were the rights of existence, all talk about human rights was useless if majority of Ghanaians could not feed their families.

The NDC Presidential Candidate stated that those yearning for genuine change should vote for the NDC.

"Let us all unite and rally solidly behind NDC for truth, transparency, the fear of God, and care for the ordinary man," he said.

Turning to the party's parliamentary candidate, Prof. Mills urged the electorate to vote for Mr Agbesi to ensure overall development of Ashaiman.

At a meeting with opinion leaders of the party in the constituency, Prof. Mills reminded them that they had similar objectives with politicians, to improve the lot of the ordinary people. The NDC Presidential Candidate advised them to bear on supporters and members of the party, in order to ensure peace in the country even beyond the upcoming elections.

The opinion leaders assured Prof. Mills that they would do all what they could to affirm his leadership in December.
