The peace and security of the country is threatened if members of political groups go on rampage and take over state installations, a former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah, has said.
The ex-military officer was of the view that “Ghana is not fully at peace” following reports of violent attacks on supporters of opposition political parties and public installations in the wake of the electoral victory and subsequent swearing in of Nana Akufo-Addo as president.
A group of men believed to members of the Invincible Forces of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the premises of the Passport Office in Accra demanding official information about the activities of the office.
The men, who entered the premises in an NPP-branded car said they belonged to the security force of the governing NPP, Director of Passports Alexander Grant Ntrakwa said on Monday, 9 January.
Even though the real objective of the men was unknown, they also told the director that they would be providing security at the office but the director declined that request.
Similar incidents were reported at the Tema Port, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) offices and National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) offices across the country.
However, the former military officer has condemned such incidents and urged calm. For him, such conduct does not augur well and threatens the security of the nation.
