A private security expert, Adib Saani has blamed the Ghana Police Service for using outmoded methods in fighting sophisticated crimes.

According to him, the police is not doing much in their fight against crime.

“There is room for improvement, but I wouldn’t blame the police entirely, we have the political elite who are supposed to approve and disburse funds to the police for some of the resources they need, we are all accomplice in the insecurity situation in the country,” he said.

Explaining further, he said the police service has to be sanitized from the recruitment stage through to the in-service training stage.

“The training procedure is too porous, I don’t think it is enough to counter complexing 21st century crime.”

According to him, crime is changing by the day because of new actors, new interest, new weapons and new strategies and so, if police officers are not trained to upgrade their craft, they will be fighting against 2019 crime with 2009 technique.

“We still have police officers managing traffic out there with no side arm, no bullet proof jacket, they are just there naked so to speak,” he added.
